Luxe Wanderlust at The Old Westbury Gardens, NY - Wedding Cakes NYC

We love every chance we get to collaborate with wonderful industry professionals; our peers' individual passions come together beautifully and yield a fantastic result!

It was a joy to work alongside Judy Pak and Matthew Lee as they photographed our wedding cakes at the Old Westbury Gardens in Old Westbury, NY. Judy and Matthew are energetic and incredibly talented photographers who not only specialize in weddings, but also have backgrounds in fashion and portrait photography. Their fantastic wedding images reflect their experience in directing and connecting closely with people in their photographs. You can see this in the lively & dazzling images they captured of the shoot!

We enjoyed having the models interact with our designs; their love of our cakes added a great element of playfulness to the shoot. The concept for the day was Luxe Wanderlust: whimsical, luxe, refined, and well traveled. Enjoy!

Thank you to Poppies and Posies's: The Trove, a curated prop shop, for supplying us with cake stands!

It was hard for the models to resist our sugary sweet designs!

The models wore stunning headpieces from Emily Riggs Bridal. Emily Riggs provides every beautiful feminine necessity in weddings, from bridal gowns to bouquet wraps.

We loved the gorgeous custom linens that Nuäge Designs provided for us; they coordinated so well with the theme.

Pola of Rosehip Floral created organic, yet refined floral centerpieces for the table. She beautifully combined blushes and grey/greens for a very romantic and whimsical look. Antique books were stacked to give the centerpieces height and the well-traveled feel that Lauren of Loli Events wanted to achieve. Who better than Loli Events, the Paris and NYC based event planning firm, to create a well-traveled look!

We love this unique XO sign!

For this shoot we gave our White Windswept wedding cake, from the AP Signature line a customized new look, using blush pink and gold hues. The textured fondant covering the three-tiered cake was painted in gold, and the cascading sugar peony was made of blush pink fondant.

We loved the architecture and landscape of the Old Westbury Gardens. What a beautiful backdrop for a photo shoot!

Rosehip Floral's bouquet design was luxe with fresh peonies, garden roses, and English roses, but also natural and eclectic in its construction, featuring berries and leaves. Sprigs of small delicate flowers gave the bouquet a lovely whimsical touch.

Seunghyun Seo styled the models hair:  whimsical, relaxed, and refined, flawlessly incorporating fresh florals by Rosehip Floral as a headpiece.

Bridal-wear expert Gabriella Risatti of Gabriella New York Bridal Salon provided stunning gowns by British designer Jenny Packham. Packham's design house dresses countless celebrities and public figures, including Catherine Zeta Jones, and The Dutchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton.

Seong Hee Park's makeup artistry paired with her long-time experience in the fashion industry expertly provided the models with two different looks throughout the day, seamlessly transitioning from an organic look to a sophisticated smoky eye.

Ana's wedding cake designs for the shoot are from both her Custom Cakes and AP Signature lines.

Cherry Blossom Wedding Cake, Westport, CT

Planning a Spring wedding or special event? Cherry blossoms offer beautiful feminine foliage that are the perfect perennial to represent the season. Including these delicate blossoms in your custom wedding cake design is another way to evoke the feeling of Spring throughout your celebration.

We love how the gold details in the beautiful linens from Nuäge Designs complement the bands on our wedding cake.

Each individual flower was handcrafted out of sugar and then taped into stems to form the appearance of realistic cherry blossom branches.

Special thanks to Melani Lust for her expertise in creating such cheerful images, even though the photo shoot was held in February!

Sports Car Groom's Cake Featured in Town & Country

We enjoy making an occasional groom's cake; capturing all the details is a lot of hard work, but fun!  We had the chance to make a cake replica of an Audi RS8, for Josh and Christine's wedding in Wilton, CT.  After all our hard work we had a sense of accomplishment when we saw the final product, and having the cake published in Town & Country was a great bonus. Thanks to Melani Lust, who submitted this gorgeous wedding.

Our approach was to make the cake as realistic as possible, as opposed to a cute, cartoonish depiction. We were fortunate to have a scale model of the Audi, provided by the bride, which helped us greatly in getting the details right.

One key was cutting the cake to the right contours; downloading the blueprints and scaling them down was a huge help.

Our staff is well-versed in making flowers, leaves, lace, and other feminine elements; making car tires, radiator grills, and pieces of trim is quite a change of pace.  We all had fun improvising, using the tools we use every week to make flowers, to texture the tire treads and trim, and shape and configure all the pieces.

We knew we had done our job well when Melani Lust sent us this photo (later published in Town & Country): Josh couldn't bear to see the cake being cut!

Greenwich, CT Custom Wedding Cake with Brushed Embroidery

Two weeks ago we delivered a cake to  a wonderful couple's reception at Burning Tree Country Club in Greenwich.

The leaves and floral detail on Karen and Chris's invitation, designed by Smock, provided inspiration for the wedding cake design.
Invitation by Smock
As you can see, the brushed embroidery detail on the sketch of the wedding cake imitates the design on the invitation.

The sugar peonies accenting the wedding cake design bring to life the flowers in the invitation detail as well.

After seeing the sketch, Karen asked if we could include some of the cream flowers as well.

Brushed embroidery is a great technique to add a design element, taken from inspiration, to the tiers of the cake. The design is subtle against white fondant, as seen here, or can be bolder against colored fondant. Either way, brushed embroidery is a beautiful addition to any cake!

Winter Wedding Cake at the St. Regis, NYC

We welcome the trend of more couples getting married during the winter; it gives us a whole new source of inspiration.  Adding an elegant venue like the St. Regis NYC, where Anna and Michael had their wedding ceremony and reception, makes it even better.

We created this six-tiered all-white (to reflect the season) custom wedding cake with gold accents (to match the ballroom).  The main decorations were hand-crafted white sugar fantasy flowers and leaves.

Best wishes to the newlyweds!

Special thanks to the staff at the St. Regis for their kind assistance, and to Louann Reed and Nancy Cohen for another beautifully designed and flawlessly executed event.  Thanks also to Fred Marcus for providing us with beautiful images.
