Custom Wedding Cake for The Knot Industry Gala NY

Last fall JoAnn Gregoli, master bridal consultant and principal of Elegant Occasions, asked Colette Peters, Cake Alchemy, and myself to create a special wedding cake for The Knot Industry Gala, to be held at the New York Metropolitan Library. It’s always a pleasure to create lavish custom wedding cakes based on a specific event theme.

The event was in October, so the color scheme was based on warm, rich colors; the elegant invitation designed by Atelier Isabey featured eggplant purple and gold, and at the event itself was to have an abundance of ivory, purple, and rust colored flowers. With these colors in mind I designed a five-tiered wedding cake that would be displayed at the gala. We were very happy to contribute to the Knot Gala; it was a nice way to thank them for featuring our wedding cakes in many issues of their magazine over the years.

Once the hard work of designing and creating the wedding cake was completed we were able to truly enjoy the party.

The finished wedding cake, featuring fondant border and brushed embroidery painted with edible gold dust and hand-crafted sugar flowers. Although, the fondant appears brown  in the photograph, the actual color was plum.

Like many other publications, The Knot throws a party every year to celebrate all the top wedding professionals in the industry that contribute to their magazine. We particularly enjoy the opportunity to talk with many people we may have only had very brief interactions with throughout the year; it’s nice to be able to put a face with the name and have time to relax and talk. It’s also wonderful to meet new people and catch up with friends in the industry we would otherwise see when we’re all busy setting up for wedding receptions.

It’s always a pleasure to talk with Carley Roney, The Knot founder and editor in chief, and Anja Winikka, the Knot’s on-line editor; they’re both down to earth, very friendly, and two of the nicest people in the industry. We were also very excited to meet many other VIP guests, including fabulous wedding gown designers and TV personalities Monique Lhuillier, Yumi Katsura, and Ines di Santo.

It was great to work with such talented professionals in the wedding industry. Thank you to the Knot's special events team and JoAnn Gregoli for reaching out to us!
