Wedding Dress Inspired Wedding Cake | Oceancliff Newport, RI Wedding Cake

Every once in a while we design a custom wedding cake based on a bride's wedding gown.

After receiving a recent comment on our blog about a fan's hope to see more posts relating to wedding dresses, we thought it would be perfect to share the inspiration Ana found in our bride Aubrey's wedding dress to design a custom wedding cake.

Aubrey tied the knot in the summer of 2011 at Oceancliff in Newport, RI.  We always enjoy creating a wedding cake for the Newport Mansions, as they provide the perfect setting to showcase our work.

She came to us in the hope of designing a custom wedding cake that would coordinate with her beautiful Monique Lhuillier gown.

Ana encourages brides to bring to their consultations photographs and swatches of their wedding dress fabrics and details. It's helpful to have visuals to assist Ana in her design process, and it's also great for the client to show exact details she would like to see incorporated into the custom design.

The more visuals you bring to a consultation, the better. It is also important to have a plan of what you don't like so you can help Ana come up with the perfect design for you!

Aubrey's dress consisted of a bodice with detailed beading, flower appliqués, and embroidery.

With Aubrey's input, Ana sketched a design incorporating details from her bodice.
Ana's Custom Designed Sketch for Aubrey's Wedding Cake

The wedding dress-inspired sketch came to life beautifully in a five-tiered custom wedding cake.

Each tier was covered with champagne colored fondant and decorated with Ana's signature freehand piping technique.

Echoing the embroidered ferns on Aubrey's dress, Ana hand-painted ferns and details on the bodice of the dress. The appliqué flowers were replicated on the cake as well. Each flower was handcrafted from sugar and attached to the cake.

Of course, Ana's custom handcrafted sugar flowers adorned the top and base tier of the design.

The colors of flowers included pinks, champagne, and creams.

This wedding cake was not only beautiful to look at but equally delicious. The cake consisted of: Dark chocolate cake with alternating layers of Dulce de Leche & Bittersweet Ganache, and White Tahitian Vanilla Cake with alternating layers of Strawberry &Vanilla Mousseline.

Custom Wedding Cake, St. Regis | NYC

Two weeks ago, Priscilla Li and Werlson Hwang were married at the St. Regis in NYC.

Ana worked with Priscilla to create a unique custom wedding cake design, perfect for her special day.

Priscilla and Werlson's Wedding Invitation

Ana was inspired to create Priscilla's one-of-a-kind custom wedding cake base on Priscilla and Werlson's wedding invitation and table setting cards.

Based on the shades of light pink and purple in Priscilla's invitation, as well as gold detailing, Ana created a sketch of her cake.

Priscilla and Werlson's Table Setting Cards

Priscilla wanted her custom wedding cake to echo the colors and style of her wedding invitation, but also harken to her favorite brand, Chanel. Signature elements of design house, Chanel, would be incorporated into the cake design, such as, quilting and chamilia flowers, and the structure of the cake tiers.

Ana's Sketch of Pricilla's Custom Wedding Cake

Ana brought her sketch to life by creating a five-tiered custom wedding cake covered in white fondant and adding carefully planned accents to each tier.

Molded gum paste jewels were handcrafted and brushed with pearl dust for a shimmering effect. Each individual jewel was meticulously set in a hand piped setting painted with gold dust.

Brooch-like embellishments were created out of gum paste and painted with gold dust to accent the tier. Priscilla asked Ana to replicate jewels for the custom cake design because she loves Chanel jewelry.

The top tier of the cake was textured in a diamond pattern to appear quilted. Throughout the pattern golden mini pearls were placed to accent the quilted effect.

Handcrafted pink peonies and purple sweet peas were placed atop the tier to coordinate with Priscilla and Werlson's invitation and table setting cards.

To accent the middle hexagon tier of the cake, Ana created an elegant fondant ribbon, painted with gold dust. Rather than a bow, the ribbon was accented in the middle with a molded gum paste embellishment featuring tiny sugar pearls.

Ana accented the base tier of the cake with handcrafted sugar chamilia flowers. These flowers were painted with gold dust to coordinate with rest of the design.

The chamilia flowers were chosen for the design because they are frequently used in designs by Chanel.

Custom Wedding Cake, Pine Orchard Club | Branford, Connecticut

This past Saturday we delivered a beautiful five-tiered wedding cake to Pine Orchard Yacht & Country Club in Branford, CT.  We'll publish a post on all the gorgeous details of this amazing wedding once the photographs are in; we couldn't wait to show this beautiful cake.

We love to create custom wedding cakes that make a statement at the reception, and at five feet tall, this cake  made a very grand statement.

Ana's sketch of Whitney's custom wedding cake
It is always exciting to see Ana's vision evolve into its tangible form; in all phases, from the first consultation with the bride, to the sketch, to handcrafting the decorations, to assembling the actual cake, Ana makes small adjustments to make sure the custom creation is a perfect fit for the event.

The tiers on Whitney's cake were covered in off-white fondant brushed with gold pearl dust and decorated with delicate freehand piping. Each tier was edged with detailed gold pressed fondant borders. In addition to the gold filigree, the top three tiers of the cake were adorned with fondant pearl borders around their bases.

The custom wedding cake boasted life-like handcrafted sugar flowers spaced between the tiers of the cake. Garden roses, freesias, white leaves, and cymbidium and dendrobium orchids in shades of white, cream, champagne, and blush pink proudly accented the cake.

Congratulations to Whitney and Matthew!

A Spring Custom Wedding Cake | Manhattan, NYC

In June we designed a custom wedding cake for a worldly couple celebrating their marriage at a private venue in Manhattan, NYC.

Since the bride and groom were working overseas up until the week of the wedding, Ana worked with both of them long-distance to design a custom cake that fit their style and wedding theme. The resulting wedding cake was a beautiful classic & elegant design with great details and lush sugar flowers.

The bride and groom selected their favorite cake and filling flavors for each of the five tiers. After the cakes were filled, each tier of this custom wedding cake was finished with meringue buttercream and white vanilla fondant, a standard practice at Ana Parzych Cakes

After the fondant was applied, each tier was painted with gold pearl dust for a beautiful finish.

The classic design utilized Ana's specialty of creating freehand brushed embroidery designs on each tier of the five-tiered cake. The brushed embroidery was hand painted with pearl dust.

The bride personalized the design further by choosing a gum paste monogram framed with a fondant pearl border. The monogram represents the first initials of the bride and groom.

Detail of brushed embroidery designs and hand-molded fondant pearls.
The base tier of the cake boasted a lush array of handcrafted sugar flowers, including peach peonies, dahlias, garden roses, white freesias, and light green hydrangeas.

The sugar flowers coordinated so well with the beautiful centerpieces by Bardin Palomo .

We love this photo of the cake, captured in black and white, by Hechler Photographers

The photo is as timeless as the cake design.

WellWed Shoot Winter 2013, Fall Custom Wedding Cakes, CT | NY

Planning a fall wedding? The details of this WellWed photo shoot are sure to inspire you!

We had so much fun putting together an autumn themed shoot in New York City for the Hamptons issue of WellWed Magazine. Cranberry, chocolate, and gold hues created a warm palate, perfect for a crisp autumn day. We love designing elegant wedding cakes, but the WellWed shoot gave a chance to create simpler cakes with fun flare! Chocolate truffles and cranberry blossoms decorate our custom cake, and our "Maple" AP Signature cake was featured amidst stunning florals by Pola from Tashi and Bobo. NY based photographer, Judy Pak captured the shoot beautifully, and, like Pola, was a pleasure to work with! Enjoy!

Making of a Playful Custom Wedding Cake, CT

We recently created a unique wedding cake for a couple getting married at Winvian in CT.

You may remember this sketch from our post of our featured upcoming custom wedding cakes.

Now you can see how Ana's sketch came to life as a whimsical custom wedding cake for a couple looking to have some fun with their wedding cake design!

Ana Parzych's Wedding Cake Sketch

The couple wanted sprinkles to cover the tiers of the wedding cake for a fun and colorful look that is surely unique! Ana works with each and every bride to make sure that the bride's one-of-a-kind style comes across in the final presentation of her cake.

Before delivering the wedding cake to Winvian, our decorating assistants added sprinkles to every inch of white fondant tiers of the wedding cake.

In order to get the multi-colored sprinkles to stick, they first painted the tiers with white royal icing, to act as glue, then poured the sprinkles onto the tiers and brushed away the excess.

How cool does a five-tiered cake covered with multi-colored sprinkles look?!

Of course, everything underneath is the same. The bride and groom selected their cake flavors and fillings for each tier, and the tiers were covered with fresh buttercream and fondant.

Once the entire wedding cake was covered with sprinkles, oversized white fondant bows were handcrafted and applied to the base of each tier.

To top off the cake, a topper which reads "For like ever," provided by the couple, was placed on the top tier.

We love how the cake transformed from inspiration to reality.

The bold white bows add elegant statements and a hint of tradition to the colorful custom creation!

As a client of Ana's you are encouraged to express your desires for your wedding or special event cake, so that Ana  can customize your cake to be perfect for you.
