Wedding Cake to Rosecliff Mansion, Newport RI

We hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday season. The holidays gave us a chance to catch our breath after a very busy wedding season that stretched well into November, and now it’s time to advance on some major projects (details to come) and catch up a bit on our blog and social media.

We had a lot of great weddings in 2011, so many that we’re having trouble deciding which one to lead off with. We’re grateful to Grace Ormonde Wedding Style for making our choice easy; they featured this wedding in their 2012 New England issue. Besides, on a cold January day it’s nice to make a mental escape to a sunny day at Rosecliff, one of our favorite venues.

We never met the bride and groom, Carolyn and Withers, in person; they lived in Tennessee and were planning their destination wedding in Newport, more than two hours from our showroom. We find that every year we design more wedding cakes for clients we never meet in person, and the process is not that much different from what we do when we meet clients face-to-face.

Carolyn and Raina, her wedding planner, did a great job getting Ana all the inspiration she needed, and after numerous e-mails and conference calls she sketched out some conceptual designs. After receiving our wedding cake samples by overnight delivery on Christmas Eve, Caroline had a pretty good idea of what flavors she wanted.

Carolyn liked the all-white custom wedding cake she had seen on our website, so that become the starting point. To look natural in the mansion, the cake had to be large and somewhat formal. Ana made some unique flowers, inspired by Carolyn’s dress.

As Ana was putting the finishing touches on the custom wedding cake, I saw a great photo coming together right in front of my eyes: the cake in the foreground, in front of the window, with a view of the wedding party getting their photos taken on Rosecliff’s beautiful front lawn.

When I saw the wedding party photo in the Grace Ormonde feature I couldn’t help looking for my camera shooting them from the window.

We get a lot of personal satisfaction out of making a beautiful wedding cake, but our best reward is hearing how much the bride liked it!
