A Wedding Cake Inspired by Fashion | Grace Ormonde Wedding Style Photoshoot | Summer Wedding Cake

We're usually asked throughout the year to come up with new designs for editorial wedding cake features. This is a great opportunity for us cake designers to create something unique not necessarily for a client but for ourselves.

I created this wedding cake for the Spring 2014 issue of  Grace Ormonde Wedding Style magazine, a luxury wedding source, in the stands now. The photoshoot took place at The Wadsworth Mansion at Long Hill Estate, a gorgeous venue with breathtaking grounds.

I get a lot of inspiration from fashion, I'm a big fan of fame designer Thakoon's edgy floral prints, I had seen this spring look outfit in Vogue and just fell in love with it!

I really liked the contrast between the black background and the lush and vibrant flowers: peonies and garden roses in corals, peaches, pinks and sage greens.

We started by creating the flowers. When making gumpaste peonies, each individual petal is cut, formed and wired individually, it's a painstaking process but it's what makes our sugar flowers so unique and realistic.

This is our canvas, a multitiered cake with ivory, black and gold finished fondant. Ready to be embellished.  We also added some molded & gilded gumpaste acanthus leaves, and fondant ribbons.

The Wadsworth Mansion (top left) offered a beautiful architectural background for our wedding cake. If you're looking for an elegant venue for your wedding, make sure to pay a visit. Not only is the Mansion stunning inside but it has beautiful grounds for an outdoor ceremony.

Me and my dear friend Jacklyn Greenberg (top right). She's the founder/owner of JAG Studios, (a boutique photography studio), a true artist, and it's always an honor to work with her when she's around; she travels all over the world doing what she loves, capturing the most memorable events in people's lives!
